چکیده
Introduction: Semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS) is caused by a bony defect of the superior semicircular canal, resulting in autophony, bone conduction of bodily sounds and pseudo conductive hearing loss. Vestibular manifestations include sound or pressure evoked vertigo. Occluding the dehiscent canal was originally described via the middle cranial fossa approach however, an alternative transmastoid approach has been used to avoid the morbidity associated with the former. The aimof this projectwas to determine clinical and audiological outcomes for those undergoing the transmastoid approach.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES After studying this article, the participant should be able to: 1. Identify the fascial layers of the temporalis region. 2. Understand the three-dimensional nature of the orbit and upper maxillectomy defects. 3. Understand the surgical harvest of temporalis flaps and temporoparietal flaps with vascularized bone. 4. Appreciate preoperative risk factors and postoperative compl...
متن کاملThe surgical anatomy of the scalp.
Cadaveric dissections and surgical observations have led to the description and clarification of the boundaries. blood supply, and nomenclature of the layers of the scalp. Special attention was directed to the layer of "loose connective tissue" that lies beneath the entire galea and above the cranial periosteum centrally, and the temporalis fascia laterally. It has been named the subgaleal fasc...

We were pleased to read Paleri and coauthors’ article “Vascularized Tissue to Reduce Fistula Following Salvage Total Laryngectomy: A Systematic Review” published in The Laryngoscope’s August 2014 issue. The review found a decrease in the rate of pharyngocutaneous fistulas by one third in salvage laryngectomy patients treated with a vascularized flap. Our group has previously published on this m...
متن کاملTreatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis with temporalis superficial fascia flap.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is characterized by the formation of bony or fibrous mass, which replaces the normal articulation and limitation of mouth opening. This study aims to determine the efficacy of arthroplasty and interpositional fascia flap in the treatment of unilateral and bilateral TMJ ankylosis in three young adult men. Our operative protocol for unilateral and bilateral...
متن کاملA comprehensive algorithm for anterior skull base reconstruction after oncological resections.
OBJECTIVE To present our method for anterior skull base reconstruction after oncological resections. METHODS One hundred nine patients who had undergone 120 anterior skull base resections of tumors (52 malignant [43%], 68 benign [57%]) via the subcranial approach were studied. Limited dural defects were closed primarily or reconstructed using a temporalis fascia. Large anterior skull base def...
